Jedi costume ideas

A Jedi costume is one of the favorite dress up ideas for many young boys, as well as some girls of course!

Most kids will want to dress up as the most famous of the Jedi, so don’t miss ideas for the

Anakin Skywalker costume
Luke Skywalker costume
or Yoda costume
There are other fantastic Jedi who appear in the movies, so here you can find out about them as well as the basic elements of Jedi costumes.

Obi Wan Kenobi

Obi Wan Kenobi was the Jedi master who trained both Luke and Anakin Skywalker. He appears in the original trilogy as a very old man, defeated in battle by Darth Vader. In the first three episodes he plays a much larger role as a younger man.

The elderly Obi Wan wore Jedi robes, with gray hair and a short gray beard. He wielded a blue lightsaber.

As a young man, Obi Wan had brown hair and a beard. Even earlier, in Episode 1, he also had the distinctive single braid in his hair of the Jedi-in-training, without his beard. There are many masks available representing Obi Wan as an adult with brown hair and his beard.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu is one of the few Jedi to use a purple lightsaber.
Rumor has it that this was in fact a personal request of actor Samuel L. Jackson, who played Windu in the Star Wars movies.

Windu is a black Jedi with a completely bald head. His Jedi costume consists of Japanese kimono-style garb, with a light brown tunic over a cream undershirt, as well as dark brown robes over the top. He also has a brown belt with a holster for his lightsaber, with black boots that come up to just below his knees.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn was the trainer and mentor of Obi Wan Kenobi as he learned to become a Jedi, and he featured heavily in the first episode of the Star Wars saga.
His appearance is similar to the middle-aged Obi Wan Kenobi, with a brown beard. However, Qui-Gon Jinn had long hair. He also had a green lightsaber.

For a Qui-Gon costume, you should have clothing similar to what was described above for Mace Windu, but with a light brown or cream colored tunic under the robes.

And now for two essential Jedi accessories:

The lightsaber

Every Jedi needs a weapon, and the lightsaber is a Jedi’s weapon of choice.

Light sabers come in various colors, which tend to reflect in some way the character of the Jedi.

Yoda’s lightsaber is green – Luke Skywalker has a green lightsaber, and later a blue one.

The evil characters, such as Darth Vader, tend to have red lightsabers. In Episode 1, the Sith warrior Darth Maul has a red two-ended lightsaber which he uses as a staff, rather than a sword. Wasn’t Darth Maul frightening – wow, he was one fearsome character!

Jedi robes

Along with the light saber, all Jedi wear a distinctive type of robe, although they don’t wear them at all times. Typically these robes are a dark brown, with very loose sleeves and a large hood that can cover the eyes.
