The torch that the statue holds in her right hand represents enlightenment and it is gold plated. Her left hand holds a tablet commonly called a keystone, which represents knowledge.

Her radiant crown is phenomenal with the “seven rays” extending from it. This feature was inspired by the allegory of Liberty on the Great Seal of the French Second Republic which wore a seven ray radiant crown.

The statue is attired in a full length robe which was inspired by the mythological Roman Goddess Libertas who was representative of liberty and freedom. The Statue of Liberty is often said to represent the idea of America bringing light to the world.
